ProPublica on How Columbia Hospital Ignored Women and Protected a Predator

We have taken note of the recent ProPublica article titled “How Columbia Ignored Women, Undermined Prosecutors and Protected a Predator for More than 20 Years” that sheds further light on the deeply troubling allegations against Robert Hadden, a former OBGYN convicted on July 25, 2023, of sexually abusing patients. As legal representatives of over 100 survivors who have bravely come forward with their stories of abuse, we address the issues raised in the article.

Our clients have shown immense courage in sharing their painful experiences, and we commend their strength in seeking justice and accountability. The allegations against Robert Hadden are not isolated incidents but rather part of a pattern of behavior that has caused severe harm to numerous individuals. We are deeply committed to supporting our clients throughout their legal journey as they seek healing, redress, and closure.

It is essential to recognize that these survivors are not motivated by any ulterior motives. Their primary goal is to hold Robert Hadden and The New York and Presbyterian Hospital, formerly Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC), accountable for the physical and emotional trauma they endured. We appreciate ProPublica’s dedication to investigative journalism, which has helped to bring these issues to light and raise awareness about the urgent need for reform within the medical profession.

We also echo the calls for a thorough examination of how such misconduct could go unchecked for an extended period and whether there were systemic failures contributing to this situation. By sharing their stories, we believe our clients contribute to a larger conversation about the need for improved safeguards and accountability mechanisms within the medical field. Their resilience and determination will not only benefit them individually but may also prevent others from suffering similar experiences in the future.
