U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Damian Williams, announced the 20-year prison sentence of Robert Hadden, convicted in January for enticing and inducing four victims to travel interstate for unlawful sexual activity. Hadden, who practiced medicine from 1987 to 2012, abused dozens of patients over two decades, using his position as an obstetrician/gynecologist to sexually assault his victims under the pretense of medical examinations. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Richard M. Berman on July 24, 2023, and was commended by U.S. Attorney Williams.
For approximately 25 years, Hadden used sophisticated techniques to carry out his abuse, exploiting the doctor-patient relationship and conducting fake examinations. His actions were described as “exceptional and unprecedented,” “shocking in the extreme,” and “depraved” by the Court. In addition to the prison sentence, Hadden, 64, was sentenced to a lifetime of supervised release and ordered to pay fines.

A recently retained client of Herman Law reports that in 1991 she was sexually abused by Robert Hadden during a prenatal appointment. Immediately following the abuse, the client reported the details of the abuse to staff, who referred her to Patient Relations. Our client reported the abuse to Patient Relations and was advised that someone would contact her for next steps but was never contacted by anyone at New York Presbyterian Hospital again. She was transferred to a high-risk pregnancy care office after this appointment with Robert Haden despite not being high-risk.
