A former basketball coach at Seton Catholic High School in Endicott, who is now deceased, has been accused of sexually abusing a student when he worked there in the 1970’s.
Vincent Dutkowski is named in four more lawsuits that have been filed in the state Supreme Court of New York, accusing him of sexually abusing students when he was employed at another Catholic school in Poughkeepsie, called Our Lady of Lourdes High School.
Dutkowski, who died in 2012, at age 83, was a registered sex offender living in Florida and did not face criminal charges from the accusations in the New York lawsuits. He was however, convicted in South Carolina in 2005 of criminal sexual conduct with a minor, which is why he became a registered sex offender.
The new New York Lawsuits were filed under provisions of the state’s Child Victims Act.
The Child Victims Act allows people to bring lawsuits related to past alleged sexual abuse against people or institutions such as schools or other organizations, regardless of how long ago the incidents took place.
