Following in the wake of other states conducting investigations into clergy sexual abuse, the Kansas Bureau of Investigations has begun their own. “On Nov. 15, 2018, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt requested that the KBI investigate allegations of sexual abuse by members of the Catholic clergy in Kansas,” according to KBI. A task force of six special agents will be conducting a thorough investigation of abuse allegations. Attorney Jeff Herman, a lawyer in the field of representing survivors of abuse said, “This investigation into local clergy abuse is a very important step in the right direction. For too long, allegations have been ignored and even covered up. I believe there will be a collective empowerment once these perpetrators are brought to light, and we will see more victims come forward”. Â
