Arizona lawmakers extended the Child Victims Act last year, which allowed a one year window on the statute of limitations for adults who were sexually abused as children to come forward to file a civil suit.
Unfortunately, that window is now due to expire as of today, Dec. 30, 2020. In Arizona, child sex abuse survivors now have less than three days to file a claim against their abuser or the institutions that gave the predators access to children.
Senate Minority Leader David Bradley, also a licensed professional counselor for 40 years, had this to say:
“I’ve been doing a lot of telecounseling since the virus started. The demand right now is through the roof,” Bradley said.
He says that being isolated during the pandemic has caused. lot of stress to adult victims of sex abuse and “There is long-standing abuse from their childhood that still affects their behaviors,” .
He was also a victims of child sex abuse and now an advocate for others to help them navigate the trauma. He was just 13 when he left home to go to Tucson to Regina Cleric Catholic Seminary. There is where his own se abuse took place, he says he was groomed by an older student and sexually abused for more than a year.
