A teacher’s aide at Willowbrook High School is accused of using her position to have sexual relations with a 16-year-old male student in her home, reports the Chicago Tribune.
Elyse V. Snyder,28, is charged with three counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault by a person in a position of authority and two counts of criminal sexual abuse based on the more than five-year different in their ages, according to Bolingbrook police.
An investigation was launched by the Bolingbrook police after the student revealed to a school officer that he had sexual contact with the teacher’s aide.
Snyder was booked into the Will County Adult Detention Facility on the charges, which were alleged to to have stemmed from two contacts in April.
A conviction of aggravated criminal sexual assault carries a sentencing range of 4-15 years, while a conviction of criminal sexual sexual abuse carries a sentencing range of 3-7 years.
Snyder’s bond was set at $50,000 and authorities did not release information on her next court date.
Snyder abused her position of trust and power and preyed on this young child. I encourage other victims, if any, to come forward. Only with disclosure can one begin to heal.
