Of all the cases I think that sex abuse cases are particularly important to have a lawyer who knows his way around these kinds of cases. There are many facets many levels and when you start to unpack all the different layers of what goes into these cases, I don’t think it’s fair to a victim, to have a lawyer who doesn’t know the way around these cases.
For example, one of the things I learned very early on is that the most important thing to focus on is helping the victim heal. Everything else will fall into place, but if the lawyer does not focus on helping the victim heal. then we’re not doing our job because what’s going to happen is we’re going to be involved in a civil lawsuit and disregarding the victim’s rights and they’re going to feel like that and their feelings and they’re going to feel like they’ve been revictimized again. So, by focusing on helping the victim heal, then we focus on empowering the victim and really giving them a voice at the end of the day the money is irrlevant to the victim because they’ve gotten back a sense of control in their life and a sense of empowerment, and that’s the most important thing.
