Polinsky Children’s Center San Diego Abuse

Are you a victim of sexual abuse at Polinsky Children’s Center?
We can help!

Over the past several weeks, a series of complaints have been filed in California courts regarding allegations of child sexual abuse at a San Diego County youth emergency shelter. The complaints allege that, between 1994 and 2020, more than 100 children were sexually assaulted by staff at the A.B. and Jessie Polinsky Children’s Center. They were also allegedly threatened to keep them from reporting the abuse.

Systemic Failures and Institutional Negligence

Children are placed at Polinsky when they must be separated from their families for their own safety. Many of the now-adult victims were under the age of 10 at the time of the alleged abuse. The complaints assert that San Diego County failed to conduct thorough background checks for Polinsky’s employees and neglected to ensure adequate staffing and supervision at the facility. Reports indicate that numerous instances of abuse were brought to the attention of supervisors but were not properly addressed, contributing to what has been described as an “institutional failure” to protect the children in its care.

Legal Proceedings and Allegations Against San Diego County

One complaint, filed on August 27, includes six named plaintiffs who allege they were victims of sexual abuse at Polinsky between 2009 and 2013. In addition to San Diego County, the lawsuit names 50 unnamed defendants who were employed at the facility during that period. According to the complaint, 20 of these individuals allegedly perpetrated the abuse, though their identities remain unknown at this time. The plaintiffs bring claims of negligence, negligent supervision of minors, and violations of the Bane Act, a California law that protects individuals from threats, intimidation, and coercion.
