The Episcopal Church is a hierarchical religious organization with Bishops heading regional dioceses throughout the country. Like other religious denominations, the Episcopal Church has faced numerous lawsuits arising from clergy sexual misconduct with parishioners of all ages. Some cases were related to the abuse of children; others involved male clergy who took advantage of their pastoral or counseling relationship with vulnerable women to manipulate them into sexual relationships. These clergymen , which includes priests and youth ministers, violated the sacred trust placed in them to focus on parishioners’ needs and to separate those needs from their own.
