1 800 686 9921Father Raymond A. Prybis, an Oblate of Mary Immaculate (OMI) ordained in 1967, served at schools and parishes across multiple dioceses, including the Archdioceses of Boston, Miami, Washington D.C., and St. Paul-Minneapolis, as well as the Dioceses of Buffalo, Grand Rapids, and Harrisburg.
In 1992, a sexual abuse allegation emerged that in the mid-1980s, Prybis had entered a rectory room where a 14- or 15-year-old boy was present, undressed himself, and asked the boy to strike him with a belt. The accuser reported the incident to church officials at the time. The sexual abuse allegation is documented in internal Archdiocesan records from September 1992 and was later reported in the Boston Globe and Boston Herald in January 2003.
As of July 2016, Prybis’s Order reportedly stated that he was living under supervision in a home for priests. In August 2018, the Diocese of Harrisburg included Prybis on its publicly released list of clergy with abuse allegations, noting that no allegations arose from his service there — the documented allegation relates to his time in the Boston Archdiocese. In September 2022, the Diocese of Belleville also included him on its list of religious order clergy with credible allegations, again in connection with his Boston-area assignment.

If you were sexually abused by Father Prybis, you may not be alone. The allegation against him raises broader questions about how his Order and the institutions where he served handled reports of misconduct and supervised clergy with access to minors.
Civil litigation in clergy abuse cases may allow survivors to seek accountability from both the individual priest and the institutions responsible for his supervision and placement. Such claims can help surface questions about whether warning signs were ignored, whether complaints were properly reported, and whether adequate oversight was in place. Depending on the jurisdiction and the specific facts of your situation, you may be able to pursue compensation and other remedies through civil action.
The viability of any civil claim depends on individual circumstances, applicable law, and statutes of limitations. An experienced attorney can help you understand your legal options. For some survivors, civil litigation has provided a path toward acknowledgment, compensation, and a measure of accountability — outcomes that may also contribute to broader institutional transparency and child safety.
If you or someone you know may have been harmed by Father Prybis or by clergy in any of the dioceses where he served, Herman Law may be able to help. Contact us for a confidential consultation.
