Father Placid Kaczorek’s case illustrates how the full scope of a priest’s alleged sexual abuse may only come to light over time, as survivors find the courage to come forward. His lengthy tenure at St. Hyacinth College and Seminary — a residential institution serving young men — along with his assignments at two parishes in Chicopee, placed him in repeated contact with minors across multiple settings over more than three decades.
Survivors of clergy sexual abuse may have legal options, including the ability to bring civil claims related to the alleged abuse and its lasting impact. The effects of childhood sexual abuse can be severe and enduring, including trauma, anxiety, depression, and difficulty with trust — consequences that can follow survivors throughout their lives. An attorney experienced in clergy abuse cases can evaluate whether a civil claim may be available to you and help you understand your options.
Pursuing civil accountability can serve purposes beyond individual recovery. Legal action may create a formal record of alleged misconduct and institutional failures, contribute to systemic accountability within religious institutions, and help protect others from future harm. For many survivors, it is also a means of reclaiming agency and securing recognition of the violations they endured.
