1 800 686 9921Father Justin J. Quinn served as a parish priest in the Diocese of Fall River, Massachusetts, and as athletic director at the former Holy Family High School in New Bedford. He also worked at St. Mary’s Home for Children, where he was described in his obituary as a “father figure to many children.” Despite these roles of trust and access to young people, Quinn was credibly accused of the sexual abuse of minors, leading to his inclusion on the Diocese of Fall River’s official list of credibly accused clergy in January 2021. He passed away on June 14, 1996.
The Diocese’s formal recognition of credible allegations against Quinn, which came decades after the alleged abuse is said to have occurred, may provide survivors with a measure of validation and institutional acknowledgment. For many survivors, this type of official listing represents an important step toward recognition of the harm they may have experienced.
With decades of dedicated advocacy, we have held abusers and institutions accountable, helping survivors secure justice and the resources to move forward.
For over two decades, we have focused solely on advocating for survivors, combining legal skill with compassion to guide them toward justice and healing.
We are honored to have guided thousands of survivors through the legal process, offering support, advocacy, and the resources they need to reclaim their lives.
Survivors who allege sexual abuse by Father Quinn may be able to seek civil remedies that provide formal acknowledgment and, where applicable, financial compensation. Civil litigation may also examine the Diocese’s role in overseeing Quinn’s assignments and its handling of any concerns about his conduct, potentially revealing systemic failures that contributed to prolonged harm.
Legal action may serve multiple purposes beyond monetary compensation. It may validate survivors’ experiences, document alleged abuse for public and institutional records, and expose the mechanisms through which misconduct was able to persist. This transparency may help prevent future harm and reinforce institutional accountability. Survivors are encouraged to consult with an attorney to understand whether their claims, even when historical, may fall within the scope of applicable civil law.
Civil proceedings also allow survivors to engage in the legal system on their own terms, reclaiming agency and ensuring their voices are formally heard. By pursuing justice, survivors not only address the harm they allege was inflicted upon them but also affirm their right to be recognized and supported in their healing journey.
Every survivor deserves compassion and acknowledgment. This video explains how civil law empowers individuals harmed by clergy abuse to pursue accountability and closure. Justice extends beyond courtrooms; it allows survivors to reclaim their voice and aids them on their healing journey. Survivors across Massachusetts continue proving that truth carries strength and healing begins with being heard.
