1 800 686 9921Father Jordan Loiselle was ordained in 1933 and was a member of the Passionist religious order. He served in assignments within the Diocese of Springfield, including at Our Mother of Sorrows Monastery in West Springfield from 1947 to 1949 and again from 1970 to 1975. He was later assigned to Mont Marie Health Care Center in Holyoke, where he served from 1975 until 1996.
On June 2, 2021, the Diocese of Springfield publicly named Father Loiselle on its list of credibly accused clergy. The Diocese reported multiple credible allegations of the sexual abuse of minors, with the reported abuse said to have occurred in 1988. Father Loiselle died in October 1996.
A public listing by a diocese reflects an internal determination that allegations met its standard for credibility. Civil standards operate independently from church findings. Survivors who experienced harm during Father Loiselle’s time in ministry — including while he served in West Springfield or Holyoke — may have legal rights under Massachusetts law.

When a diocese publicly acknowledges credible allegations, survivors may experience both validation and renewed distress. Public disclosure can confirm that others were harmed, but it may also reopen painful memories. Civil court may provide a separate and structured avenue for seeking accountability.
In Massachusetts, survivors of childhood sexual abuse may be able to pursue civil claims that examine not only the alleged conduct of an individual priest, but also the role of the religious order or diocese responsible for his supervision and oversight. Courts may review institutional policies, assignment decisions, and responses to prior concerns.
Even when an accused priest has died, civil claims may still be available against the institutions that employed or supervised him. The legal system applies its own evidentiary standards and does not rely solely on internal church determinations. For many survivors, the opportunity to have their experiences formally documented in court carries significant meaning.
Civil litigation may result in financial compensation, but it can also promote transparency and create a public record of harm. Massachusetts law recognizes that disclosure of childhood abuse is often delayed, and survivors may come forward years or decades after the abuse occurred. In certain circumstances, legal remedies may still be available.
Every survivor deserves compassion and acknowledgment. This video explains how civil law empowers individuals harmed by clergy abuse to pursue accountability and closure. Justice extends beyond courtrooms; it allows survivors to reclaim their voice and aids them on their healing journey. Survivors across Massachusetts continue proving that truth carries strength and healing begins with being heard.
