1 800 686 9921Father John F. Keane was affiliated with the Archdiocese of Boston, where he held positions at St. Elizabeth Parish in Milton and Our Lady of the Rosary Parish in Stoughton. In January 2008, he entered a guilty plea in Norfolk Superior Court to one count of indecent sexual assault and battery on a child under the age of 14, as well as three counts of sexual assault and battery. The charges related to the sexual abuse of a girl between 1981 and 1983, occurring during his assignment at St. Elizabeth Parish in Milton and/or Our Lady of the Rosary Parish in Stoughton. According to the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office, Keane knew the victim through her family, not through his priestly duties.
Keane was sentenced to 30 days in jail and three years of probation, and was ordered to register as a sex offender. In 1987, he was transferred to St. Joseph’s Parish in Holbrook. By 1989, he had left the archdiocese without authorization, and he subsequently relocated to Florida. His dismissal from the clerical state was finalized in 2009 and publicly announced by the Archdiocese of Boston on June 13, 2011. He was formally included on the Archdiocese’s list of accused clergy on August 25, 2011. Keane died on May 17, 2021.

If you or a loved one were sexually abused by Father John F. Keane, you may be able to pursue civil legal action — even if criminal prosecution is no longer available due to the passage of time. Civil claims can provide survivors with formal recognition of the harm they suffered, financial support for recovery, and an opportunity to hold accountable not only the individual perpetrator but the institutions that may have enabled or failed to prevent the abuse.
Depending on the applicable statute of limitations and the specific facts of your case, you may be eligible to file a civil lawsuit. Coming forward also serves a broader purpose: survivors who pursue civil accountability help expose systemic failures and support the institutional reforms needed to protect others in the future.
