1 800 686 9921Father Jeffrey L’Arche, a priest ordained in 1975 with the Missionaries of La Salette, served in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Springfield, Massachusetts, including an assignment at Immaculate Conception Parish in Holyoke from 1976 to 1981.
In June 2021, the Diocese of Springfield included L’Arche’s name on its public list of clergy with credible allegations of sexually abusing a minor, with the Diocese’s credibility finding placing the reported abuse between 1976 and 1981. In 1997, the Diocese of Springfield had previously removed L’Arche’s faculties — revoking his authorization to minister within the diocese.
Following the release of the Springfield list in 2021, the Diocese of Albany, where L’Arche was then serving as pastor, placed him on administrative leave. L’Arche has denied the allegation. An independent investigation commissioned by his religious order in 2004 concluded that the allegation “appears to be highly questionable.”

The credibility finding by the Diocese of Springfield, combined with the documented timeline of reported conduct from 1976 to 1981, raises questions that civil litigation is designed to examine: what institutional leaders knew, when they knew it, what actions they took, and whether the safety of children was adequately prioritized.
As in many clergy abuse cases, civil courts offer a path to accountability that extends beyond the individual priest. Lawsuits can examine the conduct of diocesan leadership and institutional decision-making — not only the actions of the accused cleric.
Even when criminal prosecution is no longer possible, civil claims may still be available. Massachusetts law has, at various times, provided survivor-focused provisions such as delayed discovery rules and revival windows. Whether and how these may apply to a specific claim depends on individual circumstances — an attorney can assess your options.
If you or someone you know was abused by Father Jeffrey L’Arche, you may be able to pursue a civil claim. Contact Herman Law to speak confidentially with an attorney about your potential legal options.
