Father J. Victor Carrier served in the Diocese of Springfield from 1969 until 2009 and was assigned to St. Rose de Lima Parish in Chicopee, Massachusetts, from 1978 to 1985. In October 2023, the Diocese of Springfield added a credible allegation of sexual abuse of a minor against Father Carrier to its publicly disclosed clergy list. According to the Diocese, the alleged misconduct occurred between 1981 and 1982 while Carrier was assigned to St. Rose de Lima Parish. The allegations describe conduct that occurred while the survivor was under Father Carrier’s pastoral care.
Father J. Victor Carrier died on February 17, 2011, at the age of 67. Because the allegation was received after his death, he did not have the opportunity to respond, and no criminal or canonical proceedings were completed. The Diocese has listed his name because the allegation was determined to be credible by its Misconduct Commission or Review Board. This public acknowledgment reflects the importance of institutional transparency and survivor recognition, even decades after the alleged events.
