1 800 686 9921Father Joseph Rosario Gerald Beauregard was a priest who served in the Diocese of Springfield and is among those credibly accused of sexually abusing a minor during his clerical assignments.
At least one claim of sexual abuse dating to the 1940s was made against Father Beauregard, alleging that he harmed a child under his pastoral care. That claim was among those included in a $4.5 million settlement reached in November 2008, through which the Diocese resolved sexual abuse claims brought by 59 plaintiffs.
On June 2, 2021, the Diocese added Father Beauregard’s name to its official list of credibly accused clergy, affirming that allegations against him met the threshold for credibility after review. Though Father Beauregard died in 1982, his posthumous inclusion on the list reflects the Diocese’s commitment to publicly acknowledging survivors’ allegations regardless of whether the accused lived to face formal proceedings.

Survivors of sexual abuse by Father Joseph Rosario Gerald Beauregard may be able to pursue civil claims against the Diocese of Springfield. The Diocese included his name on its June 2021 credibly accused list and previously resolved claims connected to his conduct as part of a $4.5 million settlement in November 2008 — an agreement that addressed abuse claims from 59 survivors across multiple diocesan clergy.
Civil litigation may compel the Diocese to produce internal records and personnel files that clarify what officials knew about Father Beauregard’s conduct during his assignments and what steps, if any, were taken in response. His inclusion in both the 2008 settlement and the 2021 credibility determination may provide a foundation for examining how the Diocese handled allegations against him.
For survivors, civil claims may provide compensation for therapy, long-term psychological harm, and emotional distress — while also creating a formal record that holds the Diocese accountable for its supervisory failures and helps ensure the full institutional response to Father Beauregard’s conduct is examined and documented.
