1 800 686 9921Father Frederick George Dion was ordained in 1953 and served as a Catholic priest in the Diocese of Springfield, Massachusetts until his death in 1991. Allegations against him include claims that he sexually abused a minor in 1957. At least one claim connected to his conduct was included in a 2008 settlement between the Diocese of Springfield and 59 survivors.
His name was publicly added to the Diocese of Springfield’s official list of credibly accused clergy on June 2, 2021 — more than thirty years after his death. The Diocese placed him in the category of deceased clergy for whom criminal or canonical proceedings were never completed, as sexual abuse allegations were received only after he had died.

Survivors of sexual abuse by Father Frederick George Dion may be able to pursue civil claims against the Diocese of Springfield. The Diocese publicly named him as credibly accused on its 2021 disclosure list and previously resolved at least one claim connected to his ministry as part of its 2008 settlement with survivors.
Civil litigation may allow survivors to seek internal diocesan records related to Dion’s assignments and supervision during his ministry — potentially clarifying what the Diocese knew, when, and how it responded. The Diocese’s decision to formally include his name on its credibly accused list three decades after his death reflects an institutional acknowledgment that the allegations against him warranted public documentation.
