Father Frank E. Fairbairn was a Roman Catholic priest ordained in 1969 who served in parish assignments within the Archdiocese of Boston, Massachusetts.
Father Frank E. Fairbairn’s name appears on the Archdiocese of Boston’s publicly released list of clergy accused of sexually abusing minors. In a 2003 civil lawsuit, a claimant alleged that Father Fairbairn sexually abused a 14-year-old boy in 1970 while he was assigned to Sacred Heart parish in Quincy. Father Fairbairn died in September 2000 — before that lawsuit was filed — and as a result, neither criminal nor canonical proceedings against him were completed.
Because no proceedings were concluded during his lifetime, his name was placed in the category the Archdiocese reserves for deceased clergy for whom the existence of allegations has been made public. The Archdiocese has stated that the publication of these names is intended to promote transparency and healing, and that inclusion on the list does not constitute a formal determination of guilt.
