Father Edward P. Lettic was ordained in 1973 and served within the Diocese of Worcester, Massachusetts. On January 26, 2014, he was removed from Immaculate Conception Parish in Lancaster and relieved of his priestly faculties after a man alleged that Father Lettic had sexually abused him as a boy approximately 40 years earlier. The allegation was deemed credible by diocesan authorities.
The reported abuse is believed to have occurred at St. Joan of Arc Parish in Worcester, where Father Lettic was serving as an associate pastor at the time of the alleged misconduct. The Diocese stated that this was the first allegation it had received concerning Father Lettic. Following the removal, the matter was referred to the Vatican for further canonical review. The Worcester District Attorney’s office was also reviewing the allegation.
It is important to note that a finding of credibility by a diocese represents an internal determination under church procedures. Civil standards operate separately.
