1 800 686 9921Father David J. Landry was ordained in 1987 and served in parishes of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Fall River, Massachusetts. His name first appeared on a list made public in September 2002, which identified 21 Fall River priests investigated by the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office following allegations of sexual abuse. Landry was listed with one alleged sexual abuse victim, though the allegation was noted as falling outside the statute of limitations at that time.
In January 2021, the Diocese of Fall River published an expanded list of clergy credibly accused of sexual abuse of minors, and Landry’s name was included. The Diocese’s inclusion of Landry on this list indicates that the sexual abuse allegations against him were found to meet the Diocese’s “semblance of truth” standard for credibility. The Diocese also notes that his priestly faculties have been removed.

The public record surrounding Father David J. Landry spans nearly two decades, from his initial appearance on a list in 2002 to his formal inclusion on the Diocese of Fall River’s credibly accused list in 2021. That timeline raises questions about the Diocese’s internal handling of the documented allegations during the intervening years and whether earlier action could have been taken to respond to the allegations on record.
Civil litigation allows survivors to pursue accountability that reaches beyond the individual priest to the institutional decisions of the Diocese itself. Claims may focus on whether diocesan leadership was aware of the allegations, whether adequate supervision was in place, and whether the Diocese’s response to reported misconduct met the standard of care owed to those in its parishes.
The removal of Landry’s priestly faculties, while a significant step, does not resolve questions about what the Diocese knew and when. Massachusetts law has been amended in recent years to address the realities of delayed disclosure in childhood sexual abuse cases. Survivors who had contact with Father Landry are encouraged to consult with a clergy abuse attorney to discuss whether civil claims may be available to them.
