1 800 686 9921Father Bruce Neylon served as pastor of Holy Trinity Parish in the Diocese of Fall River, Massachusetts. In May 2019, he was removed from active ministry following an allegation that he had sexual contact with a minor who was approximately 14 to 15 years old on numerous occasions in the early 1980s. Father Neylon denied the allegation, but diocesan authorities found the report credible following an independent investigation and review by the Diocesan Review Board, and his removal took effect immediately. His name was subsequently included on the Diocese of Fall River’s list of credibly accused clergy, published in January 2021, with a notation that his faculties had been removed.
The timeline of Father Neylon’s assignments and the documentation of allegations reflect both the enduring nature of survivor reports and the diocese’s response to credible claims. Diocesan records confirm that an independent investigation was conducted, a formal review process was completed, and the matter was referred to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office — steps taken in recognition of the seriousness of the allegations.

Survivors of sexual abuse by Father Bruce Neylon may be able to file a civil lawsuit and seek accountability against the Diocese of Fall River for its alleged failure to protect children in its care. Massachusetts law may allow claims against the Diocese for negligent supervision of clergy. Civil proceedings may enable survivors to document and validate their experiences.
The legal process may uncover institutional records — including personnel files, correspondence, and internal investigations — which may reveal what the Diocese of Fall River knew about prior misconduct or systemic failures. The Diocese’s own records reflect that an independent investigation was conducted, a formal review process was completed, and the matter was referred to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office. Accessing this kind of documentation may be valuable for survivors, as it can provide insight into institutional awareness and the decisions that may have allowed abuse to occur.
Civil claims may result in compensation for long-term psychological trauma, therapy, and emotional distress, but equally important is the public acknowledgment and validation of survivors’ experiences. Pursuing legal remedies may allow survivors to confront historical injustices, contribute to transparency, and reinforce institutional responsibility to prevent future abuse. For many survivors, civil litigation offers an opportunity to reclaim their voice, place their experiences in the public record, and contribute to the kind of accountability that can support healing — both for themselves and the broader community.
Every survivor deserves compassion and acknowledgment. This video explains how civil law empowers individuals harmed by clergy abuse to pursue accountability and closure. Justice extends beyond courtrooms; it allows survivors to reclaim their voice and aids them on their healing journey. Survivors across Massachusetts continue proving that truth carries strength and healing begins with being heard.
