1 800 686 9921Father Arthur C. dos Reis was a Roman Catholic priest ordained in 1926 who served for decades in Massachusetts, primarily within the Diocese of Fall River. He served at several parishes in the diocese, including St. Anthony of Padua and St. Michael’s in Fall River, before being named pastor of Santo Christo Parish. He retired to the Azores in 1972 and died in 1981.
In January 2021, the Diocese of Fall River publicly listed Father dos Reis among clergy on its credibly accused list, reflecting the diocese’s determination that allegations against him met its internal “semblance of truth” threshold for disclosure. His listing is part of broader diocesan efforts across Massachusetts to disclose historical allegations of clergy sexual abuse of minors.
The abuse crisis that emerged in Fall River and across the region brought renewed scrutiny to the Catholic Church’s handling of clergy misconduct allegations and prompted dioceses to identify priests against whom allegations had been made.

Survivors of sexual abuse by Father Arthur C. dos Reis may be able to pursue civil claims against the Diocese of Fall River, which included him on its January 2021 credibly accused clergy disclosure list. Father dos Reis served as pastor at multiple Fall River parishes across several decades before retiring to the Azores in 1972. His documented assignment history across multiple parishes may be relevant to questions survivors and their attorneys may wish to explore through the civil litigation process.
Civil litigation may provide survivors an opportunity to seek access to internal records, assignment histories, and personnel files that could shed light on what diocesan officials knew and when. The Diocese’s decision to include him on its disclosure list reflects that allegations against him met its internal “semblance of truth” threshold for disclosure, and civil proceedings may allow survivors to pursue a measure of accountability that public disclosure alone does not provide.
When survivors come forward, their courage can contribute to broader transparency and may help protect others from similar harm. Civil cases may create pressure on institutions to prioritize accountability and transparency.
