Father Anthony J. Vasaturo was ordained for the Archdiocese of Boston in 1955 and served at parishes across the archdiocese for nearly four decades, including assignments in Wakefield, Marlborough, Roxbury, and Boston. According to personnel records released in January 2004, Vasaturo allegedly admitted to sexual activity with a 16-year-old girl beginning in 1969. His name subsequently appeared on the Archdiocese of Boston’s List of Unsubstantiated Cases, published in August 2011, indicating that the Review Board found the allegations unsubstantiated following a preliminary investigation, or that he was acquitted through canonical proceedings. Father Vasaturo died on June 22, 2013.
The Archdiocese’s List of Unsubstantiated Cases reflects the outcome of its internal review process. It does not constitute a legal determination of innocence, nor does placement on that list prevent survivors from pursuing civil claims. For survivors who experienced abuse, the impact of that harm does not diminish because of how an internal proceeding concluded.

Survivors of clergy sexual abuse by Father Vasaturo may be able to file a civil lawsuit and seek accountability against the Archdiocese of Boston for its alleged failure to protect children in its care. Massachusetts law may allow claims against the archdiocese for negligent supervision of clergy. Even though Father Vasaturo is deceased, civil proceedings may still enable survivors to document and validate their experiences.
