1 800 686 9921Father Albert Berube was a priest who served in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Fall River, Massachusetts, including an assignment at Notre-Dame in Fall River from 1922 to 1933, followed by a long tenure at St. Anthony’s in New Bedford beginning in 1933 and becoming pastor in 1949.
Berube continued in ministry there until he became pastor emeritus in 1969 and served in that role until his death on June 26, 1973. His name was included on a list released by the Bristol County District Attorney in September 2002 of 21 Fall River diocese priests accused of sexual abuse of minors, identifying at least one alleged victim linked to him.

Survivors of sexual abuse by Father Albert Berube may be able to pursue civil claims against the Diocese of Fall River. Civil litigation may compel the Diocese to produce internal records and personnel files that clarify what officials knew about Berube’s conduct and whether concerns were ever documented or addressed during his nearly four decades at St. Anthony’s. The extended duration of his presence in a single parish setting raises specific questions about the oversight provided by the Diocese throughout that period.
For survivors, civil claims may provide compensation for therapy, long-term psychological harm, and emotional distress, while also creating a formal record that holds the Diocese accountable for its supervisory responsibilities during Berube’s tenure.
Every survivor deserves compassion and acknowledgment. This video explains how civil law empowers individuals harmed by clergy abuse to pursue accountability and closure. Justice extends beyond courtrooms; it allows survivors to reclaim their voice and aids them on their healing journey.
