Three former Massachusetts priests, Fr. Sylvio Ruest, Fr. John Salvucci and Fr. T. Raymond Sullivan, who were charged with child abuse have settled a lawsuit this week that will give millions to the victims.
Decades ago these priests served in churches in Bellingham, Billerica and Dracut.
Fr. Sylvio Ruest, who worked in the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Bellingham, was accused of sexually abusing a boy who was 13 years old at the time, and a member of the church. Ruest was accused of abusing the boy at least five times over 5 decades ago, in the 1950s.
Salvucci, who was at St. Mary’s Church in Billerica, was accused of abusing a boy at least 20 times in the 1970s.
The sexual abuse took place in the nearby rectory near the church as well as inside the church.
Sullivan, who worked at St. Therese’s Church in Dracut, was accused of abusing a boy in the 1970s.
The Archdiocese of Boston has not commented on legal proceedings. They do, however, list the names of priests who have been sentenced or charged with child sexual abuse.
The Child Victims Act has a one-year window in some states, some more, some less, for adults who were abused as children to come forward against their perpetrators. Now is the time to act and empower yourselves and begin the healing process.
As a result of the Child Victims Act’s one-year window, victims must swiftly assess and prepare any potential claims they may have against the entities responsible for their abuse. Herman Law represents hundreds of victims of childhood sexual abuse in New York, many of whom have been victims of the widespread problem of sex abuse within the Catholic Church.
