1 800 686 9921Brother Albert F. Kerressey, also known as Brother Ricardo or Brother Richard, was a member of the Xaverian Brothers who joined the order in 1932. On September 22, 1994, a demand letter accused him of sexually abusing a student at St. John’s Preparatory School in Danvers, Massachusetts. The student had suffered physical injuries during a hazing incident at the school. At the time of the alleged abuse, Brother Ricardo held the position of Headmaster. The allegation states that he orally sodomized the student in the school infirmary.
Kerressey previously worked at a high school in the Worcester diocese and later served as an education official at the United States Catholic Conference in the Washington, D.C., archdiocese. He also worked in Boston as a family counselor for the Archdiocese of Boston. He died on September 19, 1997.
Despite the serious nature of the allegation, Kerressey was omitted from the Boston Archdiocese’s 2011 published list of accused clergy. He was included on the Xaverian Brothers’ own list of accused members on July 12, 2019, which notes accusations reported in 1994 and later of abuse occurring in Danvers during the mid-to-late 1960s.

If you were sexually abused by Brother Kerressey while a student at St. John’s Preparatory School or at any Xaverian Brothers institution, you may have legal options available to you. The viability of a civil claim depends on individual circumstances and applicable law, including statutes of limitations, and we encourage you to contact us for a confidential consultation to understand what options may apply in your case.
Civil litigation may offer survivors an opportunity to seek accountability from the institutions — including the Xaverian Brothers and St. John’s Preparatory School — that employed and supervised Kerressey. Even decades after the fact, civil action may expose systemic failures that allow misconduct to continue, and may result in compensation, institutional acknowledgment, or other forms of resolution.
For many survivors, pursuing a civil claim is also a step toward reclaiming their voice and contributing to the historical record of harm. Holding institutions accountable helps ensure that safeguards are strengthened for future generations. If you or someone you know may have been affected, Herman Law is here to listen and to help you understand your rights.
Every survivor deserves compassion and acknowledgment. This video explains how civil law empowers individuals harmed by clergy abuse to pursue accountability and closure. Justice extends beyond courtrooms; it allows survivors to reclaim their voice and aids them on their healing journey. Survivors across Massachusetts continue proving that truth carries strength and healing begins with being heard.
