Sexual assault accusations prompt FSU School of Theatre town hall

The Florida State University School of Theatre hosted the play, “Tartuffe,” by Moliere from March 30 to April 8, 2018. The cast and crew performed the play the night before opening night as a special presentation to fellow students within the School of Theatre. Lauren Hermanson is a student within the School of Theatre and was a cast member getting ready for the inaugural “Tartuffe” performance when she noticed that her accused rapist, a fellow student within the School of Theatre, was sitting in the front row.

Once she finished her performance, Hermanson stepped outside to mend the panic attack that the accused rapist’s presence had caused. Her theater manager texted her and asked where she was. Hermanson informed her stage manager that she was in the parking lot and needed a minute to calm down. Her stage manager told her to come in after intermission, and Hermanson did. She went home that night in preparation for the official opening night of “Tartuffe,” only to receive a phone call the next day that she had been cut from the show.
