Sexual Abuse Lawsuit Filed Against Seagull Academy for Independent Living
Lawsuit alleges two autistic girls were sexually assaulted multiple times by adult male students at Seagull Academy for Independent Living, a Riviera Beach charter school for developmentally challenged
WHAT: Jeff Herman, a nationally recognized attorney for victims of sexual abuse, announces the filing of a sexual abuse lawsuit against SEAGULL ACADEMY FOR INDEPENDENT LIVING, a school for the developmentally challenged.
According to the Complaint:
·When they were approximately 13 years old and attending school at SEAGULL ACADEMY FOR INDEPENDENT LIVING (SAIL), JANE DOE 38 and JANE DOE 39 were sexually assaulted multiple times by adultmale students on the premises of SAIL. Both girls are developmentally challenged and have been diagnosed with autism.
·Upon information and belief, at all relevant times, SAIL officials, including Principal Linda Moore, had actual notice that the JANE DOE’S had been sexually harassed or abused by other adult male students at SAIL.
·SEAGULL ACADEMY FOR INDEPENDENT LIVING has a systemic problem of adult male students sexually harassing, abusing and assaulting young female students. It knew of this problem, yet failed to do anything in response, and with deliberate indifference allowed the sexual abuse to continue.
JANE DOE NO. 38 and JANE DOE NO. 39 v. SEAGULL ACADEMY FOR INDEPENDENT LIVING was filed today in U.S. DISTRICT COURT SOUTHERN DISTRICT OF FLORIDA.
