A Largo massage therapist was arrested Monday on charges of sexual battery against a 53-year-old client.
According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, the 36-year-old massage therapist, Ronald Bruinius, had three previous complaints filed against him this year.
Police say they were contacted last month by a woman who said Bruinius touched her inappropriately during a massage at Artistic Expressions Day Spa.
Further investigation revealed she wasn’t the first to issue a complaint, ABC Action News reported.
I commend the brave woman in this case for coming forward and it is my hope that she and the individuals who previously filed complaints against Bruinius feel a sense of validation from his arrest.
When women are assaulted during a massage or spa treatment, the trauma they experience can be profound. Predators target these women because they are in a relaxed and vulnerable state, which means they may take longer to react. Often, these victims feel a sense of shame or guilt, which makes it more difficult to come forward.
Hopefully, this survivor’s courage will help other victims understand that they are not alone and what happened to them is not their fault. Only when they begin to feel empowered can healing truly begin.
