Last week a woman, known as the initials J.S., filed a civil suit against the Dalton School, a prestigious private institution on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
Under the Child Victims Act, a claim can now be made by people to file suits against their abusers, who had previously been unable to file due to the expiration of the statute of limitations. Now, decades later, J.S. is alleging that alleging that the school’s former headmaster sexually abused her in the late 1980s.
She claims in the suit that Gardner Dunnan, the Headmaster of Dalton School at the time, abused her in 1986. She said that Dunnan allegedly arranged or her to have free tuition at the school and took her ot his home, where he allegedly sexually abused her on multiple occasions.
Jeffrey Epstein started teaching physics and math in 1973 at the Dalton School where he tutored the son of Alan “Ace” Greenberg, former Bear Stearns chairman.
The Child Victims act expires 8/14/2021 and allows victims to bring old claims and civil suits that have since passed outside of the statute of limitations.
