Former Juvenile Corrections Nurse Charged in Sex Abuse Case

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a former Idaho juvenile corrections nurse, after she was charged with two counts of sexual battery of a minor and two counts of having sexual contact with a juvenile inmate, according to Idaho Press-Tribune

Valerie Kristen Leiteau, a former nurse at the Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections facility in Nampa, has a $500,000 warrant issued for her arrest.  The attorney representing several of the former inmates in civil cases believes she is currently residing in California.

A civil claim filed back in March included allegations that Lieteau and Esperenza Jiminez, a former intern medical assistant, had sexual contact with male inmates at the juvenile center.

The suit claims that the facility’s director, superintendent, the department itself and the Milan Institute, which was responsible for assigning Jiminez to work as an intern in the facility, failed to stop the abuse.

Julie McCormick, another former staffer, pleaded guilty to lewd conduct with a minor in connection with an inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old male inmate.  After completing a sex offender treatment program earlier this year, she was released from prison.

Leiteau had the responsibility of caring for these children in the correctional facility but instead she abused her power and put them in needless danger.
