Former High School Teacher Accused of Groping Student

A former Catonsville High teacher is facing several charges for allegedly groping a 16-year-old student when he was teaching at the school more than a decade ago, reports CBS Baltimore

Nathan Lee Martin, 38, turned himself into authorities on June 22 after a warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of second-degree child abuse, fourth-degree sexual offense and sexual abuse of a minor, according to police.

Martin was indicted last month by a Baltimore County grand jury.

According to investigators, Martin was supervising a basketball scrimmage between the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams on Dec. 12, 2003.  Afterward, the victim alleges he approached her and invited her to his classroom.  She followed but did not enter the room.

Later that day, while the two were walking down a stairwell, Martin allegedly groped the victim’s chest and between her legs.  The victim said Martin also tried to kiss her but she pushed him away.

Martin, who no longer works for the county school system, is set to go on trial October 27.

He is currently out of custody on $100,000 bail.

Unfortunately, I do not believe this is the first and only time Martin committed such acts.  If there are other victims, I urge them to come forward.  Only with disclosure can one begin to heal.
