Memphis, TN – Nigel Johnson and Jarvis Beck, former employees at Saint Francis Hospital, have been charged with statutory rape by a person in a position of authority.
Johnson and Beck took turns having sex with a 15 year-old female patient who was getting inpatient treatment for suicidal thoughts. They were both arrested in July.
A former employee told WXIN that Saint Francis Hospital had rules that, “If you had a male employee, they couldn’t be in a room by themselves with a female patient.” However, because the hospital was understaffed, this rule was often violated.
The same employee advised hospital management of the inappropriate interactions going on between Johnson and Beck and the victim. The hospital spokesperson would not discuss how long they knew of the interactions, but confirmed Johnson and Beck are no longer employees at the hospital.
Investigators are unsure if there are additional victims.
Saint Francis Hospital is a therapeutic center where patients can go for treatment. It should be a place where children feel safe.
