Day care worker gets 12 years in prison for sex abuse

A daycare teacher has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after surveillance cameras show him kissing one of his students, reports The News Journal.

According to the Delaware Department of Justice, Anthony Rodriguez, 21, was also sentenced to six months of work release or home confinement and must register as a Tier 3 sex offender.

Surveillance cameras from Kidz Inc. Academy caught Rodriguez kissing one of his students on the lips twice on July 28, 2015.

After the footage surfaced, the child was interviewed at A.I. duPont Hospital for Children and told an investigator that Rodriguez had reached inside his swimming trunks at his birthday party the month before.

Rodriguez was charged with crimes related to sexual offenses against three children.

He pleaded guilty in October to sexual solicitation of a child and two counts of second-degree sexual abuse of a child by a person in a position of trust.

Rodriguez was ordered to have no contact with the victims or their families and to have no unsupervised contact with anyone under 18.

The number of priority of any daycare should be the safety of the kids they are entrusted with.
