Counselor at after-school program charged with sex abuse

A male counselor at an after-school program has been charged with sexual abuse of a minor, reports The Washington Post

According to authorities, Raul Alejandro Ramos, 21, inappropriately touched a preschooler.

Ramos is a counselor at a privately run after-school program in Rockville that is not administered by Montgomery County.

On Oct. 31, Child Protective Services alerted Montgomery detectives to allegations of a counselor inappropriately touching a 5-year-old girl.

According to a county police news release, the incidents took place between Aug. 29 and Oct.31 , while the child was enrolled in the “Kids After Hours” program at Flower Valley Elementary School.

An investigation into it revealed that the 5-year-old had been touched inappropriately “more than once by a particular counselor” while playing tag, on the playground inside the school.

Ramos was also charged with third-degree sexual offense.

Police ask that anyone who has concerns about other possible abuse occurring to other children in the after-school program contact detectives from Montgomery County’s Special Victim Investigation Division.

Parents should be able to feel safe when leaving their kids in after-school programs.  I encourage anyone with information or concerns about their own child to come forward.
