Bright Horizons daycare worker charged with child molestation

A teacher’s assistant at a Bright Horizons Child Care Center was arrested in Sandy Springs, reports Atlanta Journal Constitution

Milton police spokesman Lt. Charles Barstow said Bernard Benta, 46, was arrested by Milton police on charges of child molestation and sexual assault by a school administrator.

The alleged assault took place on a 4-year-old child who attended Bright Horizons daycare, located at 3105 Webb Road in Alpharetta.

Benta was arrested at his home and booked in the Fulton County jail.  He has since been released.

Bridget Perry, a spokeswoman for Bright Horizons, said Benta was cleared to teach after successfully completing a full background check that included an independent background check as well as the Bright from the Start background check.

Perry also stated that local daycare workers reported the parents’ complaint when it came in on Feb. 11 and they have been working with authorities during the investigation.

In an emailed statement, Perry said: “[Benta] was immediately placed on leave when the parents brought the concern to us.  We also reported it to licensing and Child Protective Services and we have been working closely with the authorities as they investigate.”

Parents send their child to daycare hoping that they will be in a safe environment that promotes learning, which was not the case here.  Daycares should always err on the side of caution.
