Two men have filed a lawsuit against the Archdiocese of Chicago, claiming they were sexually abused by priest Daniel McCormack during their tenure on the basketball team McCormack coached, reports CBS Chicago.
The lawsuit states the Archdiocese knew about, but did not properly investigate the reports of sexual abuse. Additional claims against McCormack claim he “sexually touched sleeping seminarians and abuse a minor boy in a Mexico seminarian program.”
McCormack was arrested in 2006 and sentenced to five years in prison after having pled guilty to sexually abusing five other children.
The lawsuit claims negligence and seeks more than $200,000 in damages.
The more these institutions are put on the forefront and held accountable for their actions, the more vindication these victims receive.
