Earlier this month, attorney Jeff Herman filed three new sexual abuse lawsuits against the School Board of Highlands County, bringing the total case count against the school board to five.
The lawsuits state that Orestes Gonzalez, the husband of former school board employee Maria Gonzales, sexually assaulted students between the ages of 6 and 11 in the after-care program at Lake Country Elementary.
Orestes Gonzalez was arrested in February 2011 after being accused of molesting three children 7 to 9 years of age at Lake Country Elementary’s after-school program.
“According to our lawsuit, officials from the Highlands County School Board knew Orestes Gonzales was a danger to children, yet they failed to take any action to prevent him from sexually abusing other kids in the aftercare program,” said Jeff Herman, the attorney for the victims in these cases.
