$25 Million lawsuit filed against Alabama Department of Resources and Foster parents in sex abuse case

This week four foster children sued their foster care system for $25 million in damages against their foster care parents as well as the Alabama Department of Human Resources.

The suit claims that the the Department of Human Resources and the Lauderdale County failed to take action against the foster parents , Jenise and Daniel Spurgeon.

Daniel Spurgeon pleaded guilty to two counts of child rape, one count of sexual torture and 11 counts of aggravated child abuse and is currently serving a 25 year prison sentence.

The Spurgeons were approved to be foster parents in 2004 by Alabama Department of Human Resources. In 2016 the Spurgeons move to Florida which is what prompted the investigation in the first place . Three teenagers were found in a fast food restaurant intoxicated an they told police their father had given them alcohol. This led to police investigating and discovering accounts of molestation and physical abuse. The lawsuit against the Alabama Department of Human Resources claims that workers failed to act upon red flags.
